LIFE SOLANUM is a 4-year project involving the Regional Directorate for Environment and Climate Action (DRAAC) and the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Food (SRAA) of the Regional Government of the Azores , the Matosinhos City Council, the Centre for Ecological Research and Forestry Applications (GRUMETS/CREAF), the Spanish National Research Council (ICM/CSIC), and the Observatório das Ribeiras e Lagoas (ORLA).
LIFE SOLANUM addresses the growing threat of the invasive alien species Solanum mauritanum across Atlantic and Macaronesian ecosystems. The project addresses a unique invasion gradient that spans from established and expanding populations in Macaronesia to emerging invasion fronts along Atlantic Iberia. This dual context positions the project as a strategic demonstration initiative with strong European added value, simultaneously addressing the management and restoration of ecosystems where the species is already widespread in EU outermost regions and the prevention of new invasions across continental Europe.
